2011 Contest

The Broad River Review and Gardner-Webb University are proud to announce the winners of the Rash Awards in Fiction and Poetry.

Marylee MacDonald of Tempe, Arizona, won The Rash Award in Fiction for her short story, “Tea and Sugar.”

Celisa Steele of Carrboro, North Carolina, won the Rash Award in Poetry for her poem, “To a Son on the Verge of Divorce.”

Both winners receive $500 and publication in the 2012 volume of the Broad River Review.

Marsha Mathews of Dalton, Georgia, and D.E. Lee of Jacksonville, Florida, received Honorable Mentions in Fiction.

Alice Osborn of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Natasha Hays of Forest City, North Carolina, received Honorable Mentions in Poetry.

Silas House of Berea, Kentucky, and Cathy Smith Bowers of Asheville, North Carolina, served as judges for the fiction and poetry contests, respectively.

The next entry period for The Rash Awards will begin on August 1, 2012, and conclude on November 15, 2012. Full contest rules will be available in early summer at broadriverreview.org.
